BJP wants Mumbai police to book Uddhav Thackeray for Jalgaon suicide

Synopsis

Drawing parallel with the police action in the Arnab Goswami-Anvay Naik case, BJP leader Nilesh Rane said that the "police should show courage and book Uddhav Thackeray under Section 306 (abetment to suicide)" in the case pertaining to the suicide by state transport corporation conductor citing low wages.

The death of a government employee in Maharashtra's Jalgaon has become the new flashpoint between the BJP and the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Manoj Anil Choudhary, was a conductor at the Jalgaon city depot.

On Monday morning, he reportedly hung himself after writing a suicide note in which he blamed the Jalgaon city corporation and the Uddhav Thackeray government for forcing him to take the extreme step.

In the letter, he also cited low pay and irregularities in the state transport corporation as reasons for him to commit suicide.

The BJP has latched on to the issue.

Drawing parallel with the police action in the Arnab Goswami-Anvay Naik case, BJP leader Nilesh Rane said that the "police should show courage and book Uddhav Thackeray under Section 306 (abetment to suicide).

"State trasnport workers are giving their lives in agony. This government has not been able to protect their lives. Employees of state transport corporation should park all their vehicles in the premises of the state secretariat."

The Uddhav Thackeray government has not yet responded to the BJP's charges.

Meanwhile, investigation into the suicide continues.
