JMM Accuses BJP Over CM's Effigy Burning

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Mithilesh Kumar Thakur on Saturday accused the BJP of instigating the burning of Chief Minister Hemant Soren's effigy during a protest, alleging that the act was carried out in defiance of a judicial order. Speaking to ANI in Ranchi, Thakur said that while everyone has the right to express their views, attempts to take the law into their own hands cannot be accepted. "Everyone has the right to express their views. Effigies of the Chief Minister and ministers have been burnt in the past as well. However, today this was done at the behest of the BJP and in defiance of a judicial order. Attempts are being made to take the law into one's own hands, and we oppose this," he said.

The JMM leader further said that people would launch a major protest against the MMDR Act and claimed that the movement would "shake the foundations" of the Central Government. "These people are being sent to divert attention from this issue," Thakur added.

Police Use Mild Force on Protesters

Earlier on Saturday, Ranchi city Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) KV Raman stated that police had to resort to mild force after protesters allegedly violated the route designated by the police administration during a demonstration in the city.

The protest was organised on Friday following a call by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission-Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JPSC-JSSC) Reform Forum, which had appealed to students to burn effigies of the Chief Minister across all 24 districts of Jharkhand in protest against the High Court's decision.
