Janatha Curfew: Tamil Nadu comes to standstill; India reports 5th death due to coronavirus in Maharashtra

Tamil Nadu came to a standstill on Sunday, with empty roads, bus stands and railway stations. India has reported its 5th COVID-19 death.
Chennai: Observing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Janatha Curfew, to minimise the coronavirus spread, Tamil Nadu came to a virtual standstill on Sunday.
In most parts of the state, public and private buses, autos and taxis did not move. Arterial roads in Chennai, including the Anna Salai and the GST Road, which usually see a serpentine queue of vehicles during peak hours, were empty.
The wholesale and retail market for vegetables, flowers and fruits was shut in Koyambedu. Other cities and towns of the state such as Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli and Madurai had the similar situation. However, the local body-run 'Amma Canteens' were open to migrant and helpless labourers and workers since all other eateries were shut.
Essential services like milk distribution and hospitals (including the state-run Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital which treats COVID-19 patients and the Stanley) saw usual functioning.
Three more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, taking the total number of cases to six.
However, the 5th COVID-19 death has been confirmed in India. A 63-year-old patient has died in Maharashtra.
