INS Vikramaditya: India's largest warship now has an ATM as well

INS Vikramaditya is the first warship in the country to have an ATM. SBI will be operating the ATM onboard the warship.

INS Vikramaditya, which is country's largest warship, now been equipped with the first ever ATM on an Indian navy aircraft carrier.

The ATM on the ship docked at the naval base at Karwar will be operated by the country's largest lender SBI and will cater to over 1,500 personnel and officers deployed on the ship. 

"The facilities offered by the State Bank of India to the ship include cash withdrawals, generation of mini-statements, access to bank balance details and change of PIN numbers," an official statement said.

"In the near future, the facility will be upgraded to a recycler machine with a cash deposit facility. Additionally, facilities like cash transfer, card-to-card transfer, credit card payment, mobile number registration and updation would also be available," an official statement said. 

It added that a Point of Sale (PoS) system will also be installed in the future on the warship and this "would go a long way in supporting cashless transactions on the ship, in line with the government's policy of digitising the Indian economy".

The facility was inaugurated jointly by Flag Officer Commanding of the Karnataka Naval Area Rear Admiral K J Kumar and SBI MD and Group Executive Rajnish Kumar. 

INS Vikramaditya's Commanding Officer Captain Krishna Swaminathan said that the ATM machine "will enable personnel of the ship to manage their domestic financial requirements better and assist them in conducting their money transactions at their own convenience."

INS Vikramaditya is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier purchased by India on 20 January 2004. It was formally inducted into the Indian navy by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 June 2014.

INS Vikramaditya is home to over two dozen Mikoyan MiG-29K ‘Fulcrum-D’ besides 4 dual-seat MiG-29KUB aircraft, 6 Kamov Ka-31 “Helix” reconnaissance and anti-submarine helicopters, torpedo tubes, missile systems, and artillery units.
