Indian Navy helps douse major fire at historic hotel in Fort Kochi

A fire at the historic Old Harbour Hotel in Fort Kochi was brought under control with assistance from the Southern Naval Command. Naval firefighting teams from INS Dronachar, Venduruthy & Garuda joined local authorities in the operation.

A fire incident was reported on Tuesday at the historic Old Harbour Hotel at Fort Kochi. Following a request for assistance from the Commissioner of Police, Kochi, the Southern Naval Command promptly mobilised firefighting resources to assist the civil authorities in containing the fire.

Navy Joins Firefighting Operation

Accordingly, Defence Fire Tenders (DFT) from INS Dronachar, INS Venduruthy & INS Garuda were immediately pressed into service. The naval teams actively participated in the fire-fighting operation alongside the local fire and police authorities and contributed towards bringing the fire under control.

Through coordinated and sustained efforts by the responding agencies, the fire was brought under control.

A release said the prompt response and assistance rendered by the Indian Navy reaffirm the Southern Naval Command’s commitment to supporting the civil administration and local authorities during emergencies and disasters, in keeping with the Navy’s role in providing assistance to the civil authorities whenever required.
