Rahul Dravid – this name never fails to amaze us. From being one of the best batsmen in his times to being a humble, selfless gentleman now, ‘The Wall’ of the Indian cricket has come a long way. Recently, the former Indian captain was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree from the Bangalore University. But Dravid declined it selflessly.

The reason he stated after declining the honorary doctorate degree from Bangalore University will inevitably make you respect him more. Dravid said that he would like to earn that degree after completing a research in the field of sports. The Bangalore University had decided to honour the batting great at their 52^nd Annual Convocation ceremony on January 27.

Here is the official statement from Bangalore University stating Dravid has declined the honorary doctorate degree in all humility:

In case you did not know, this is not the first time that Dravid has declined a degree. In the past he had declined an honorary doctorate degree from Gulbarga University as well.

Dravid, who is currently the coach of the India U-19 and India A sides, retired from international cricket in 2012 after playing 164 Tests and 344 ODIs scoring 13288 and 10889 runs respectively.

Here he is now, setting an example for other sportsmen/sportswomen across the nation to follow his footsteps. We have seen in the past that a number of sportsmen or sportswomen have been conferred upon with honorary degrees. But is it right on their part to accept such honorary degrees without even researching?

A number of film stars have been doing the same as well. But Dravid’s way of thinking can amuse anyone and everyone. It is indeed amazing how the former Indian captain has maintained his astoundingly larger-than-life character, in an incredibly simple fashion.
