Synopsis

According to the Met department, the sky will remain cloudy and more showers are likely in the evening in Delhi. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 27 degrees Celsius, the official added.

Delhi: Many parts of Delhi, this afternoon, looked snowed in as busy roads were covered in hailstones. Heavy rain along with hail and thunderstorms hit parts of the capital, causing traffic congestion on several busy roads.

It was a cloudy morning in the national capital with the minimum temperature settling a notch above the season's average at 16.4 degrees Celsius, the meteorological department said. The humidity level at 8.30 am was recorded at 88%. However, there was a dip in the temperature after the rain.

The sudden weekend downpour and hail sent social media into overdrive, with many sharing videos and images on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

"Hail storm in Delhi, haven't seen anything like this here for a long while," Kabir Taneja tweeted.

Brrrrrrr.....#Hailstorm in Delhi today. Just when I thought summers are almost here! Wrote another user Rachna Lather.

"Nature's not happy. A #hailstorm in March in Delhi does not bode well, especially for farmers," wrote Anisha Singh.
