Synopsis

A 35‑year‑old farmer in Hathras allegedly shot himself with an illegal firearm after a quarrel with his wife over being woken early.

A 35‑year‑old man allegedly shot himself dead with a country‑made firearm in Hathras district on Wednesday morning following a domestic dispute. Police said the incident occurred at Rampur Jattari village in Sikandrarao area.

The deceased, identified as farmer Lalu Singh, is survived by his wife Asha Devi, six‑year‑old son Aarav and one‑year‑old daughter Aarohi.

According to family members, Lalu was accustomed to waking around 8am daily. On Wednesday, his wife woke him at 5am to help open a locked kitchen gate while preparing to send their son to school. This led to a heated argument, during which he allegedly assaulted her.

Disturbing Sequence Of Events

After sending their son to school, Asha Devi prepared tea for Lalu. Around 7am, he drank the tea and called his brother‑in‑law. During the conversation, he reportedly said it was their “last talk” and asked him to take care of his sister.

Moments later, Lalu went inside a room and locked the door. Family members heard a gunshot soon after. His wife raised an alarm, drawing neighbours to the house. Police were informed, and once the door was forced open, Lalu was found lying on the bed in a pool of blood with the firearm next to him.

Station House Officer (Sikandrarao), Shiv Kumar, confirmed that the illegal weapon was seized. The body was sent for post‑mortem examination, and further investigation is underway based on a complaint filed by the family.
