Gurugram CEO's Conversation With Cab Driver Earning Rs 1 Lakh Monthly Goes Viral (WATCH VIDEO)

A viral video captures Zypp Electric CEO Akash Gupta's conversation with a taxi driver about leaving a salaried job for the gig economy. The CEO encourages the driver to see himself as an entrepreneur, sparking a discussion on gig workers being India's new middle class and micro-entrepreneurs.

A video of the CEO of a firm in Gurugram talking with a taxi driver about income, self-employment, and the place of gig workers in India's changing economy was posted. The CEO and founder of Zypp Electric, Akash Gupta, took the video while riding in a taxi. The driver said throughout the chat that he had previously earned about Rs 25,000 per month from a paid job. Gupta then enquired as to if he was currently making about Rs 1 lakh. The driver grinned and said that one of the reasons he had quit his job was the possibility of earning more money.

Gupta then advised the driver to see himself as an entrepreneur operating his own company rather than just a cab driver. He clarified that the car served as the driver's "shop" and that he was able to feed his family by earning between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000 a day by working for about ten hours a day.

"Tum pataa hai kya ho? Tum entrepreneur ho, jo apna kaam khud karta hai, apna startup khud chalaata hai (Do you know what you are? You are an entrepreneur, someone who works for himself and runs his own startup)," Gupta told the cab driver.

He also advised the driver to identify as a businessman rather than a taxi driver. The driver agreed, stating he recognised Gupta's point of view and saw the task as his own business.

"Bharat ka naya middle class - gig entrepreneur. This is why the gig economy matters. These aren’t just delivery partners. They’re micro-entrepreneurs building income on their own terms. This is the next middle class of Bharat," he wrote.
