Gujarat Police doubles 'Janrakshak' fleet to 1,000 for safety

Gujarat Police will add 500 new, state-of-the-art 112 'Janrakshak' vehicles, doubling its emergency response fleet to 1,000. The expansion aims to further reduce emergency response times and strengthen citizen safety across the state.

Gujarat Police to add 500 new, state-of-the-art 112 'Janrakshak' vehicles to its fleet for citizen safety and emergency response, taking the total number of such vehicles operating across the state to 1,000.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi will flag off the 500 additional 'Janrakshak' vehicles from the New Secretariat on August 25.

The vehicles will operate round-the-clock for emergency services across the state.

Under the new system, the Janrakshak vehicle nearest to the incident site will be dispatched to provide immediate assistance.

Enhanced Emergency Response and Performance

Considering the state's growing population, urban expansion, and geographical area, additional vehicles are being deployed to strengthen the emergency response system.

In the 11 months since the launch of the Janrakshak service, more than 11.04 lakh integrated service instances have been facilitated, while immediate assistance has been provided in more than 6.74 lakh police-related emergency incidents.

Reduced Response Time Through Technology

The use of a 150-seat modern call centre, Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, and caller-location technology has reduced the average response time from 27 minutes to 10 minutes 49 seconds. The objective is to reduce the response time further through the deployment of additional vehicles and technology.

To overcome jurisdictional barriers, a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will also be implemented, ensuring that the nearest PCR vehicle is dispatched to the scene of an incident.

Integrated 'Dial 112' System

Under the 'Dial 112' initiative, various emergency services, including Police (100), Ambulance (108), Fire (101), Women's Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098), and Disaster Helpline (1070), have been integrated onto a single platform. The 112 panic button feature has also been integrated into Ola, Uber, Rapido, and Bharat Taxi apps.

State-of-the-Art Vehicle Features

The new-generation PCR vehicles will be equipped with air conditioning and safety grilles or protective structures to facilitate 24x7 operations. They will also feature Mobile Data Terminals (MDT), GPS-based vehicle tracking, emergency light bars with sirens, Public Address Systems (PAS), fire extinguishers, first-aid kits and searchlights.

Police personnel deployed in the vehicles will be equipped with body-worn cameras, helmets, protective gear, and dash cams.

Each vehicle will be staffed 24x7 by a team comprising one ASI/Head Constable, two constables, and a driver.

With the addition of the 500 new vehicles, a total of 1,000 'Janrakshak' vehicles will remain operational round-the-clock for emergency services across Gujarat. (ANI)
