Synopsis

A viral YouTube thumbnail falsely claims that the Indian government is giving free laptops under a 'One Student One Laptop' scheme. PIB Fact Check confirmed that no such scheme exists and warned students to stay alert.

A YouTube video thumbnail by a channel named My Help Shivam has gone viral, claiming that the Government of India is giving free laptops to all students under a scheme called 'One Student One Laptop Yojana'.

The video attracted many views and confused thousands of students and parents across the country.

PIB Fact Check says claim is fake

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check team has now stepped in and clearly stated that this claim is fake.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), PIB clarified:

  • The central government is not running any such scheme
  • The ‘One Student One Laptop’ Yojana does not exist
  • Students and parents should not fall for such misleading content

The fake claim was marked with a big red ‘फ़र्ज़ी’ (fake) stamp in PIB’s official graphic to stop the spread of this misinformation.

Stay alert against false promises

PIB has advised people to stay cautious and not believe every message or video that promises free benefits in the name of the government.

For any suspicious claim about a government scheme, people can contact PIB Fact Check through:

  • WhatsApp: +91 8799711259
  • Email: factcheck@pib.gov.in

This is not the first time that information about fake schemes have been shared online to mislead students. Time and again such fraud claims keep circulating, prompting the need for everyone to stay alert. It's always safer to verify through official government websites or trusted news sources.

Remember, if a deal looks too good to be true, like a free laptop for everyone, it probably is. Always double-check!
