Exclusive: 'Bihar verdict will be beginning of NDA's downfall'

Synopsis

Bihar will deliver its verdict on November 10 when counting of votes cast in the state assembly elections will be taken up. Ahead of the verdict, Asianet Newsable's Senior Correspondent Mohammed Yacoob caught up with Rashtriya Janata Dal's Secretary Alok Mehta who is confident that the Mahagathbandhan will get majority and that the beginning of NDA's downfall will be from Bihar.

The exit polls have given a clear edge to the Mahagathbandhan. What is your immediate reaction?

This is only guess-work and statements based on guess-work. I do not believe in any exit poll results. But one things is sure. We get a fair idea of what is going to happen.

Any idea how many seats that the alliance is hoping to get?

It appears we will get majority (122).

What will you do if post results, your alliance partners demand 50-50 formula for the Chief Minister's post?

Tejashwi Yadav has been chosen by people as chief minister. People have liked and voted in large number. I think the Mahaghatbandan's announcement will be Tejashwi Yadav. I don't think there is any doubt in that.

Do you think the Bihar election results will deliver a blow to the BJP and NDA?

BJP is involved in dictatorship. They don't have principle. The kind of discipline they (BJP) have, will not be useful for the people. They want to divide the country, to destroy the economy. They are privatising Railways. Public sector units are being sold the way a spoilt child sells his father's hard-earned land. That is kind of situation they have put the nation in. The nation is watching them. People have realised and in the coming days it's going to be tougher for them (BJP).

It looks like the Mahaghatbandan gained from LJP parting ways with the NDA in Bihar?

We don't see this from benefit point of view. We see them as a solution to issues. Only those about whom voters have a positive feeling will benefit politically. I think we had raised some good issues. Hence, the voters liked us.

After Bihar, in 2021, many states will witness elections and BJP wants to make in-roads into West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Do you think the Bihar results will have any impact on them?

It's the beginning of downfall of NDA. Any type of revolution in this country has always started from Bihar. And today, I can surely tell you that this 'commercial government' which has hijacked all the government institutions will be defeated by people. Bihar's voters have initiated this. The (Bihar) downfall will be replicatwed across the country. This (BJP defeat) will be witnessed in five to seven states where elections are scheduled to happen next.
