Doctor sexually assaults male COVID-19 patient, booked and quarantined

A doctor has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a male patient suffering from COVID-19 at a private hospital in Mumbai.


Mumbai: A day after joining duty a 34-year-old doctor allegedly assaulted a male patient of COVID-19 in the ICU ward of Mumbai's Wockhardt hospital. The accused has been put under quarantine instead of being arrested due to fear of him having contracted the infection.

According to a media report, the incident occurred on May 1 around 9:30 am. The report quoted Agripada Police as saying that the accused is in quarantine inside his home in an apartment block in Thane and is being monitored.

Hospital authorities have sacked the doctor.

According to reports, the police have registered a case under IPC sections 377 (unnatural offences), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of diseases endangering life) and 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of diseases endangering life). 

678 new coronavirus cases were reported on May 4 in Maharashtra, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This brings the total reported cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra to 12,974. Among the total people infected as on date, 2,115 have recovered and 548 have passed away.
