India's aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, on August 10 asked individuals travelling to international destinations to check airfares, preferably on the particular airline's website. The DGCA directed the airlines to submit details about the airfares that they have been charging. It asked them to monitor prices on search engines like Google to ensure they do not show very high prices. The aviation regulator further asked them to review fares on third-party platform sites and keep an eye for discrepancies to avoid confusion.
The statement comes after a senior IAS officer named Sanjeev Gupta informed in a tweet that an economy-class ticket on British Airways' Delhi-London flight for late August costs around Rs 3.95 lakhs. He further said that the economy-class tickets to London flights of Vistara and Air India were also priced between Rs 1,20,000 and Rs 2,30,000, respectively.

On August 9, the Ministry of Civil Aviation issues a clarification saying that the reports claiming that the one-way economic tickets of India-UK have touched Rs 4,00,000 have 'no proven basis'. The statement came after an online travel agency platform showed expensive airfares for flights to the United Kingdom.
Last week, the United Kingdom moved India to the Amber list, allowing Indians to travel to the UK. However, after being fully vaccinated, the travellers have to complete their home quarantine as well.
In April, the United Kingdom had banned Indians from entering the country due to an outbreak of the second wave of coronavirus and the rapid spread of the Delta variant.
