Dawood's brother Iqbal Kaskar arrested in Thane

Iqbal was supervising the real estate business of his brother Dawood Ibrahim. This time, he was held in an extortion case where he was trying to gain money from a builder. The builder informed the police who picked up Kaskar for interrogation and then later arrested him.

In a huge breakthrough, the Thane Police has arrested Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar in connection with a case of extortion. Led by encounter specialist, Pradeep Sharma, the Thane anti-extortion cell took Kaskar for questioning and then arrested him later.

A police officer from the anti-extortion cell said, "Kaskar called a builder from Thane around four months ago and tried to extort money from him. The builder lodged a complaint with the police a few days ago. When we traced the number, we confirmed it was Kaskar’s."

The officer further added, "We have questioned Kaskar about the call. We have detained him as a prime suspect in the case."

Inside reports suggest that Kaskar, who was deported from the UAE in 2003, is said to be operating his brother's real estate business in the city. He was wanted in a murder case and the Sara Sahara illegal construction case, but was acquitted in both the cases in 2007.

Incidentally, this is Sharma's first big case since taking over the anti-extortion cell last month. Previously posted with the Mumbai police, he was dismissed from service in August 2008 for his close ties with the underworld.
