Coronavirus: PM Modi to discuss COVID-19 situation with all state CMs on July 27

As Unlock 2.0 comes to an end on July 30, PM Modi will convene a meeting with all state chief ministers to discuss COVID-19 scenario

New Delhi: As the number of coronavirus cases breached 14-lakh mark, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with chief ministers of all the states on July 27, to discuss the pandemic situation in the country. The virtual meeting will be attended by Union home minister Amit Shah and health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. Measures post Unlock 3.0 are likely to be discussed during the meeting.

In his earlier meetings, PM Modi had stressed on the importance of lives and livelihood. “Decisions need to be taken keeping in view both current needs and future requirements,” PM had said in his June 17 meeting with CMs.

Emphasising on the economic revival post-COVID-19 crisis, Modi had said that green shoots are already visible in the economy and power consumption, which had gone down, has already increased.

Last week, he had spoken with chief ministers of Bihar, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the telephone and took stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Centre has advised Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Assam to urgently ramp up testing, strictly implement a containment plan and augment health infrastructure, during an interaction with the states that went on till late Friday evening.

Notably, a high-level virtual review meeting was chaired by Cabinet secretary with the chief secretaries and health secretaries of the nine states that are driving the present spurt of the active caseload in the country.

With 48,661 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day, India's COVID-19 tally climbed to 1,424,202 on Sunday, while the recoveries mounted to 8,85,576, according to the Union health ministry data. The country's death toll rose to 32,656.
