Coronavirus: Medical student who returned from Russia commits suicide

Synopsis

Police has launched an investigation into whether mental stress led 20-year-old Krishnapriya  to take the extreme step  

Kottayam: A medical student who returned from Russia hanged herself in Kerala's Kottayam district. The 20-year-old was placed under home quarantine.

The deceased identified as Krishnapriya was pursuing MBBS in Russia and had returned home six days ago. According to sources, the whole family of Krishnapriya shifted to a relative's home to arrange a home quarantine facility for her.

The family was in contact with Krishnapriya till July 13 over the phone. On the same day, when Krishnapriya was not reachable on phone, her relatives called up the neighbours and asked them to check on her. When neighbours broke the window of the house, they found her hanging.

Samples from her person have been collected to conduct a COVID-19 test and the results are awaited. However, it was established that she was asymptomatic.

Police who reached the spot have inspected Krishnapriya's mobile phone and laptop. Police are also investigating to establish whether mental stress led her to take the extreme step.
