Coronavirus: Kerala records highest single day spike with 4351 new COVID-19 cases

Synopsis

This is the first time that Kerala is reporting over 4,000 coronavirus cases in 24 hours.  


Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded the highest single day spike with 4351 new COVID-19 cases on September 17. 2737 recoveries were also reported in the state.

With this, the active number of coronavirus cases in Kerala rises to 34,314. 87,345 people have been cured of the novel coronavirus in the state.

Out of the fresh infections, 4,081 were through contact and the infection source of 351 remains unknown. 10 deaths were also confirmed due to COVID-19. As many as 71 health workers were also confirmed to have contracted the infection. Among the new COVID cases reported, 57 persons had returned from abroad while 141 returned from other states.

Thiruvananthapuram reported 820 cases, Kozhikode – 545, Ernakulam – 383, Alappuzha – 367, Malappuram - 351, Kasaragod – 319, Thrissur – 296, Kannur – 260, Palakkad – 241, Kollam – 218, Kottayam – 204, Pathanamthitta – 136, Wayaand – 107 and Idukki – 104.
