Coronavirus: Kerala records highest single day spike with 10,606 new COVID-19 cases

This is the first time that Kerala is reporting over 10,000 coronavirus cases in 24 hours.
 


Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded the highest single day spike with 10,606 new COVID-19 cases on October 7. 6,161 recoveries were also reported in the state.

With this, the active number of coronavirus cases in Kerala rises to 92,161. 1,60,253 people have been cured of the novel coronavirus in the state.

Out of the fresh infections, 9542 were through contact and the infection source of 741 remains unknown. As many as 98 health workers were also confirmed to have contracted the infection. Among the new COVID cases reported, 55 persons had returned from abroad while 164 returned from other states.

Thiruvananthapuram reported 1155 cases, Kozhikode – 1488, Ernakulam – 1013, Alappuzha – 667, Malappuram - 1224, Kasaragod – 407, Thrissur – 931, Kannur – 475, Palakkad – 372, Kollam – 847, Kottayam – 489, Pathanamthitta – 271, Wayanad – 131 and Idukki – 72.

In the past 24 hours, a total of  73,816 samples have been tested in the state. 

22 coronavirus related deaths were also reported in Kerala on October 7.
