
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala added 18 more hotspots on Sunday, taking the total to 55 in the state.
As many as 53 fresh cases were reported on May 24, even as five patients recovered. Trivandrum and Kannur each reported 12 cases, while Malappuram and Kasaragod reported 5 fresh cases each. Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Palakkad have recorded 4 cases each. Kollam added 3, while Pathanamthitta added 2 and Kozhikode added 1 to the list.
One native of Tamil Nadu also confirmed positive on Sunday. 18 people have come from abroad. Out of the 53 new cases, 29 people who tested positive were returnees from other states.
The growth trend in the state has been on the higher side for a second consecutive day. Kerala health minister KK Shailaja briefed the media on Sunday and said that the growth trend cannot be stopped as many people from red zones across India and abroad are returning to the state.
Meanwhile, all incoming passengers are being placed under quarantine and most of the facilities still remain closed due to the induced lockdown. The state is expecting more returnees from abroad in the coming days and the number of positive cases are bound to increase.
