Coronavirus: Karnataka man booked for flouting home quarantine 163 times in 14 days

Udupi: A resident of Udupi was booked on Tuesday for violating home quarantine 163 times in a 14-day period.

The Kundapura police said Sahab Singh arrived at his rented house at Koteshwara in the district from Mumbai on June 29 and was ordered home quarantine by the district authorities till July 13, as per the protocol by the health department for interstate travellers.

Singh, who is a businessman, is said to have gone out and about in Kundapura and Udupi and even visited hotels in the area, according to reports.

Singh's mobile GPS tracker, according to Flying Squad officer NG Bhat, revealed that he had violated the home quarantine order 163 times and visited various places.

A complaint has been filed against Singh in Kundapura Police Station in this regard and a case has been booked under IPC Sections 269 and 270 (Malignant act likely to spread infection of disease danger­ous to life).

Karnataka’s total COVID cases has crossed 44k mark (44,077) with the addition of 2,496 cases on Tuesday, while Bengaluru’s total cases are now reaching 21k mark (20,969) with addition of 1,267 fresh cases.

COVID-19 deaths continue to peak in the state as it reported a record 87 deaths in Tuesday’s bulletin (total deaths-842). Of 87, Bengaluru accounted for 56; the highest so far (total deaths-377).

Of the 87 deaths, 27 were under the age of 50. In Bengaluru, a 23-year old woman was the youngest victim and a 90-year old man was the oldest.

In positive news, the state recorded the maximum discharges in a day with 1,142 people walking out of hospitals (total discharges so far-17,390).
