Coronavirus: India records over 79,000 new cases in last 24 hours

India reported 1,069 deaths in the last 24 hours making it the third country to report over 1 lakh deaths globally.  

New Delhi: The Health Ministry on Saturday said that India's coronavirus tally has reached 64,73,545 with a spike of 79,476 new cases. In the last 24 hours, India also reported 1,069 deaths due to COVID-19.

The health ministry data says, with 79,476 new cases, the tally reaches 64,73,545 including 9,44,996 active cases, 54,27,707 recoveries and 1,00,842 deaths.

The highest deaths are reported from Maharashtra followed by Tamil Nadu and then Karnataka, which has reported the third highest number of deaths.

Globally, India, so far, has the third highest Covid-19 deaths after the US which has reported over 2 lakh deaths and Brazil where 1.4 lakh deaths have been registered.
