Coronavirus: Delhi schools to remain closed for all students till October 5

Synopsis

Delhi government has announced that all Delhi schools will remain closed for students till October 5

New Delhi: Schools in Delhi will remain closed till October 5 due to the increase in coronavirus cases. The Delhi government said that private and government schools will be closed for all students till October 5.

The online teaching and learning activities will continue as usual, an official order issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) said. It added the school principals are authorised to call staff as per requirement for smooth conduct of online classes or any other work.

Earlier the government had said that it would allow senior students to come to schools if they need any guidance from their teachers. But now the government said that there will be no partial reopening of the schools.

Since March 16, schools and colleges in the country have been closed as the Centre announced a countrywide classroom shutdown as part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Few schools resumed functioning, as the Centre gave the green signal to reopen schools from September 21 as part of Unlock 4 guidelines.

India's COVID-19 tally raced past the 52-lakh mark with 96,424 people testing positive in a day, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease rose to 41,12,551 on Friday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The total active cases stand at 10,17,754, while 41,12,552 have been cured/discharged/migrated and 84,372 deaths.

Among the states, Maharashtra has 3,02,135 active COVID-19 cases, Karnataka 1,03,650, Andhra Pradesh 88,197, Uttar Pradesh 68,235, and Delhi 31,721.
