Congress names candidates for Telangana Legislative Council elections

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved Sama Rammohan Reddy and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy as candidates for the biennial elections to the Telangana Legislative Council from Graduates' Constituencies, scheduled to be held in March 2027.

Congress Announces Candidates

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday approved the party candidates for the forthcoming biennial elections to the Telangana Legislative Council from the Graduates' Constituencies.

According to an official press release issued by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, Sama Rammohan Reddy will contest the election from the Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad Graduates' Constituency. While Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy will contest from the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal Graduates' Constituency.

Election Schedule and Voter Roll Preparation

Earlier, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana released the complete schedule for the preparation of new voter lists ahead of the elections to two Graduate MLC seats, which are set to fall vacant in the state.

As per the schedule issued by the Telangana CEO, the public notice was issued on September 28, with the re-publication of the notice scheduled for October 15 and the second re-publication set for October 25. The last date for receiving applications in Form 18 has been fixed as November 6. The manuscript preparation and printing of draft rolls will take place on November 20, 2026, followed by the draft publication of electoral rolls on November 25. The period for filing claims and objections will remain active from November 25 to December 10, while the disposal of claims, objections, and printing of supplements will be completed by December 25, leading to the final publication of electoral rolls on December 30.

The biennial elections are scheduled to be held in March 2027, as the terms of office for sitting MLCs Vani Devi and Teenmar Mallanna are set to expire in poll-bound constituencies.

BRS Expresses Confidence

Meanwhile, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) on september 28 expressed confidence that the party would retain the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahbubnagar Graduates’ MLC seat in the forthcoming elections, saying that the party was in a favourable position to retain the constituency.

Recalling the party’s victory from the constituency with former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s daughter Surabhi Vani Devi as its candidate, KTR said the victory had been made possible by the coordinated and systematic efforts of party leaders and cadres. He called upon the party leadership to work with the same spirit in the forthcoming elections. (ANI)
