Congress candidate for Speaker, Nana Patole is 56 years old and represents Sakoli Assembly in Vidarbha.  

Mumbai: Congress's Nana Patole has been elected as the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker. BJP withdrew its candidate from the race. So, Congress candidate Nana Patolewas elected unopposed as the Speaker.

BJP had nominated Kisan Kathore for the Speaker's post, but has withdrawn his candidacy.

 

Earlier on Saturday (November 30), Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance proved its majority with pro-tem speaker Dilip Walse holding the floor test. BJP's 105 MLAs staged a walkout and 169 MLAs of the alliance voted for Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi.

Congress candidate for Speaker’s post, Nana Patole is 56 years old and represents Sakoli Assembly in Vidarbha.

Patole was in Congress party but quit and joined the BJP in 2014. He won the election from BJP ticket in the same year.

Patole quit BJP in December 2017. It was reported that he resigned due to differences with PM Modi and former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis.

After quitting BJP, Patole returned to Congress.

BJP nominated Kisan Kathore was elected as MLA in 2004 on an NCP ticket. He represents Ambernath in Thane.
