In the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll, TMC candidate Alifa Ahamed is leading with 4,545 votes, while Congress’ Kabil Uddin Shaikh trails with 1,830 votes, followed by the BJP with 1,112 votes.
Counting began at Panighata UDM High School under tight security and full CCTV surveillance. The by-election, held on June 19 with a 60.32% voter turnout, was necessitated by the death of sitting TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed, with his daughter Alifa now contesting to retain the seat.
