TMC's Alifa Ahmed wins Kaliganj (West Bengal) Assembly by-election by a margin of 50,049 votes, garnering 1,02,759 votes in total.

Congress's Aryadan Shoukath wins Nilambur (Kerala) Assembly by-election by a margin of 11,077 votes, garnering 77,737 votes in total.

In a major political upset in Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a sweeping victory in the Nilambur by-election, with Congress candidate Aryadan Shoukath winning by a margin of over 11,000 votes. The result marks a significant blow to the ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), which had held the seat. Shoukath’s emphatic win signals renewed momentum for the UDF in the state, reclaiming ground in a region previously considered a Left stronghold.

Aam Aadmi Party has retained its Ludhiana West seat in Punjab. AAP's Sanjeev Arora defeated Congress's Bharat Bhushan Ashu by over 10,000 votes in the Assembly by-election.

AAP leader Gopal Italia clinched victory in Visavadar by-election in Gujarat, prompting jubilant reactions from the party leadership. Gujarat AAP president Isudan Gadhvi hailed the win as a “victory of the people of Visavadar, of the farmers, labourers, and unemployed youth.” 

“If there is anyone who can defeat the BJP, it is AAP… a foundation has been laid today,” Gadhvi asserted, expressing confidence that AAP will form the government in Gujarat in 2027.

BJP's Rajendra Chavda visited the poll body office after winning Gujarat's Kadi Assembly by-election by a margin of 39,452 votes.

As AAP's Sanjeev Arora nears victory in Ludhiana West (Punjab) assembly by-election (as per official EC trends) and Gopal Italia wins Visavadar (Gujarat) Assembly by-election, party workers celebrate and distribute sweets in Chandigarh.

BJP candidate Rajendra Chavda won Kadi seat in Gujarat by more than 39,000 votes.

The seat has been vacant since February following the death of BJP MLA Karsan Solanki. The constituency, under the Mehsana district, is reserved for SC candidates.

After the fourth round of counting in Gujarat’s Visavadar Assembly bypoll, BJP candidate Kiran Patel is leading with over 16,000 votes, while AAP’s Gopal Italia trails by a margin of around 1000 votes, according to early trends on Monday.

BJP candidate Rajendra Chavda is seen leading with over 29,000 votes in Kadi.

In the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll, TMC candidate Alifa Ahamed is leading with 4,545 votes, while Congress’ Kabil Uddin Shaikh trails with 1,830 votes, followed by the BJP with 1,112 votes. 

Counting began at Panighata UDM High School under tight security and full CCTV surveillance. The by-election, held on June 19 with a 60.32% voter turnout, was necessitated by the death of sitting TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed, with his daughter Alifa now contesting to retain the seat.

AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora is leading the Ludhiana West bypoll with 2,895 votes after the first round of counting. Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu trails with 1,626 votes, while the BJP stands third with 1,117 votes.

After the first round of counting, Congress candidate Aryadan Shoukath has taken the lead with 7,683 votes, followed by CPI(M)’s M Swaraj with 6,444 votes, while BJP’s Mohan George trails behind with 1,117 votes.

Bypolls in Gujarat’s Kadi and Visavadar constituencies were necessitated after the death of BJP MLA Karshan Solanki and the resignation of AAP MLA Bhupendra Bhayani, respectively. 

Kadi, a reserved SC seat, saw eight candidates in the fray. 

In Visavadar, the BJP fielded local leader Kirit Patel, while AAP backed senior leader Gopal Italia, with top leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann campaigning for him. 

Congress’s Nitin Ranpariya is also contesting, making it a three-way battle in a constituency once represented by former CM Keshubhai Patel.

The counting of votes for the Ludhiana West assembly bypoll is underway after a high-stakes contest seen as a litmus test for Punjab’s ruling AAP, which is looking to retain its grip, and for the Congress, aiming to reclaim its former stronghold. 

AAP fielded Rajya Sabha MP and industrialist Sanjeev Arora, while Congress nominated senior leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu. The BJP’s Jiwan Gupta and SAD’s Parupkar Singh Ghuman are also in the fray. 

While the main battle is between AAP and Congress, the results will also reflect BJP’s urban appeal and test SAD’s efforts at revival.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal and the CPI(M) in Kerala are viewing today’s bypoll results as a litmus test ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in their respective states. With both parties currently in power, a strong performance in these by-elections could provide crucial momentum and shape their campaign narratives for next year’s high-stakes political battle.
