BSEB to award 8 extra marks to failing students; Results may be delayed

Synopsis

BSEB to award grace marks to students failing in one or two subjects. Matriculation results are likely to be delayed post revision of marks. The decision came after majority of examinees failed in the intermediate exams in the May.

The Bihar School Examination Board's (BSEB) move to award extra 8 marks to failing students has raised many eyebrows. The board has decided that the marks will be awarded to students who have failed in one or two subjects. If the student has failed in one subject, he will be awarded 8 extra marks and if he has failed in two subjects, he will be awarded 4 marks each.

As it is the result of the matriculation exam was expected on June 20, but it is expected to be delayed now because of the revision in marks. The decision to award grace marks was finalised after approval from the state government. The decision was taken after a number of students failed in the intermediate exam results, which were announced on May 30.

The pass percent in the science stream was the least with just 30.11 per cent, only 37.1 per cent students passed in the arts stream. However, the commerce stream reported the highest pass percent with 73.76 per cent.

The board had sent the proposal for the grace mark to the Chief Secretary of State Education Department on June 14. It is now expected that the result will be prepared anew after awarding the grace marks. Any official confirmation from the board is awaited.
