Synopsis

BJP's Tarun Chugh slammed the 'deteriorating' law and order in Punjab, citing the murder of a police ASI and jail violence. He demanded CM Bhagwant Mann's resignation, alleging 'Jungle Raj' and administrative collapse under the AAP government.

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday expressed grave concern over the "deteriorating" law and order situation in Punjab, citing the brutal killing of Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Joga Singh near Majitha in Amritsar and the recent violent unrest inside Kapurthala Central Jail as glaring examples of "total administrative collapse".

While demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Chugh said in a press release, "The cold-blooded murder of a Punjab Police employee while on his way to duty has exposed the shocking insecurity prevailing across the state."

"If Punjab Police personnel themselves are not safe, what security can ordinary citizens expect under the Bhagwant Mann government?" he asked.

Breakdown in Prison Administration

Referring to the Kapurthala Central Jail violence, Chugh said inmates reportedly went on a rampage, set barracks on fire, climbed rooftops, attacked jail staff, and forced authorities to use tear gas and lathi charge to regain control, exposing the complete breakdown of prison administration in Punjab.

Rise in Criminal Activities

He further noted that these incidents are not isolated, as Punjab has witnessed repeated attacks on police chowkis and police establishments. Extortion rackets, targeted killings, and gangster activities have grown in recent months, reflecting the increasing audacity of criminal and anti-social elements under AAP rule, Chugh claimed.

Jails Alleged 'Safe Havens' for Crime

Chugh alleged that Punjab's jails have become "safe havens" for organised crime, where extortion networks flourish, narcotics circulate freely, and gangsters continue to operate fearlessly from inside prisons.

Accusations of 'Jungle Raj'

"The Kapurthala jail violence and the murder of a Punjab Police employee clearly show that Punjab is being pushed towards Jungle Raj. Fear, lawlessness, gang violence, and administrative paralysis have become the identity of the Bhagwant Mann government," Chugh said.

He further alleged that politically influenced policing, weak governance, and administrative failure have emboldened gangsters, anti-national forces, and criminal syndicates in the highly sensitive Indo-Pak border state. (ANI)
