BJP fields Priyanka Tibrewal to take on Mamata in Bhabanipur bypoll

Synopsis

The West Bengal BJYM vice president and lawyer by profession, Priyanka Tibrewal was one of the petitioners in the post-election violence cases against the TMC government in the Calcutta High Court.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded party leader Priyanka Tibrewal for the September 30 by-election for the Bhabanipur assembly seat against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The West Bengal BJYM vice president and lawyer by profession, Tibrewal was one of the petitioners in the post-election violence cases against the TMC government in the Calcutta High Court.

The party also announced the names of Milan Ghosh and Sujit Das for Samserganj and Jangipur seats respectively.

Mamata Banerjee, who needs to win the Bhabanipur bypoll to retain the chief minister's post, will file her nomination later today. Mamata had lost to her former aide-turned-BJP rival Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram.

Priyanka Tibrewal had lost to Trinamool Congress' Swapna Samdar in the 2015 Kolkata Municipal Council elections.

The bypoll will be held on September 30 along with the elections to two seats in the Murshidabad district, Jangipur and Samserganj. The results of the by-elections to these seats will be out on October 3.
