BJP chief JP Nadda accuses Mamata Banerjee government of having ‘anti-Hindu mindset’

BJP president JP Nadda on Thursday (September 10) called the Trinamool Congress government “anti-Hindu”, putting on record for the first time in Bengal politics the issue of discrimination on the basis of religion. Nadda buttressed his argument by pointing to the “minority appeasement politics” of Trinamool, portraying Hindus as victims.  

Kolkata: Launching an attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, BJP chief JP Nadda on Thursday (September 10) accused the Mamata Banerjee government of having an “anti-Hindu mindset and spawning political violence in the state, which has claimed the lives of over 100 BJP workers”.

Nadda buttressed his argument by pointing to the “minority appeasement politics” of Trinamool, portraying Hindus as victims. However, the Trinamool did not hesitate to verbally attack the BJP president.

The meeting of the new working committee of the state BJP was held at Maheshwari Sadan on Central Avenue on Thursday (September 10). State BJP president Dilip Ghosh, assistant observers Kailash Vijayavargiya, Arvind Menon, state executive member Mukul Roy and central secretary Rahul Sinha were present in the meeting. BJP president Nadda also attended the meeting virtually from Delhi.

Nadda said, “Ram Mandir is linked to the aspirations of crores of Indians. When the entire country was watching the bhumipujan on August 5, Mamata Banerjee imposed a lockdown in Bengal and prevented people from taking part in the celebrations.”

But the same government lifted the announced lockdown on July 31 on the occasion of Bakri Eid. We have no problem with the government calling off lockdown during Bakri Eid celebrations. But why was the government so firm when it came to Ram Mandir?” said Nadda, addressing the BJP state executive committee’s first meeting on Thursday (September 10).

The BJP all-India president said that he would do his best to bring the BJP government in West Bengal in the 2021 Assembly Elections. Laying the roadmap for next year’s assembly elections, Nadda said, “In 2011, we had a 2% vote share in Bengal with 4 seats. In 2014, we got 2 seats but vote share rose to 18%. In 2019, we got a vote share of 40%. We have to continue at the same speed and in the coming elections, we’ve to defeat TMC.”

After Nadda's speech, the Trinamool did not stop retaliating. The party's secretary-general Partha Chatterjee said, “All the BJP leaders are saying the same thing. The politics that Mamata Banerjee is doing are for everyone and for the protection of the culture, tradition, democratic rights of Bengal. She is fighting for the people of the state. We do politics for the people. We do not do politics to ignore people.”
