Bengaluru Police nab three illegal Bangladeshi immigrants

Bengaluru Police had detained 60 such illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in October 2019

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police arrested three people from a family whom they found to be Bangladesh citizens, who were illegally residing in India. The arrests were made in Munnekolala in Marathahalli Police Station limits.

The police said the accused were identified as Mohammed Lokman (55), his wife Jasmin Begum (45) and their son Raasel (22), and the family hails from Barisal village in Pirajpur district of Bangladesh. The three worked as ragpickers for a couple of years and possessed fake Aadhaar and voter ID cards.

DCP (Whitefield) MN Anucheth said that based on specific information, the police traced them to a location near Thubarahalli lake and they were taken into custody. Police said that the trio confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals, and officials seized one copy of a Bangladeshi national ID card and two copies of birth certificates from them. 

The family has been booked under Foreigners Act and a case has been registered under Cr. No. 31/20 u/s 14 in Marathahalli Police Station. Further investigation is on.

Previously, police had detained 60 such suspects in October 2019.

At a press conference Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao had said that these suspected illegal immigrants were living in shanties in peripheral areas of the city falling under Ramamurthynagar, Bellandur and Marathahalli Police Station limits.
