As political leaders unite, removal of religious structure halted by district administration, DC gets notice

Synopsis

Mysuru District administration gets notice after it cleared a religious structure citing Supreme Court guidelines. DC Bagadi Gautham said that he will reply to the notice given by the government and has put the clearance drive on hold.

In a significant development, the Mysuru district administration which was in the center of a storm following the clearing of religious structure has now received government notice.

The Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru, Bagadi Gautham says that he can't divulge the details of the notice but will reply to it.

He confirmed that along with him, even the area tahsildar has received the notice on the issue.

As a result of the notice, the district administration has suspended clearing the unauthorized religious structures drive.

Mysuru MP Pratap Simha, MLA Sa Ra Mahesh, MLA GT Deve Gowda and ex-CM Siddaramaiah had raised objection over Mysuru district administration's move after a disturbing video of a temple gopura being removed with JCB went viral.

An official on condition of anonymity said that they are sandwiched between SC guidelines of clearing unauthorized religious structures and anger from the public and politicians on the same matter.

Few days ago, Mahadevamma Temple in Nanjangud was demolished citing SC guidelines. The issue has united leaders across parties and charged that the officials did this demolition in a hurry and without consultation.

Congress writes to DC asking action against Pratap Simha:

The Congress party, meanwhile, has approached the Mysuru district administration seeking action against MP Pratap Simha for attempting to disturb the peace. The Congress says Simha questioned the district administration's intention and accused the officials of not touching 'dargahs'.

Congress accused the MP of deliberately making such remarks to disturb the peace. The Mysuru Congress unit contended that when a dargah and a masjid case was pending in court, Simha had urged for its demolition.
