Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal expected to inaugurate national capital's first smog tower on August 23

Synopsis

According to reports, an official stated that the smog tower's construction had been completed and that its inauguration will take place on August 23 rather than August 15. The tower, which stands around 20 metres tall, was built to enhance air quality within a one-kilometer radius.

Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Chief Minister, is expected to launch the national capital's first pollution tower at Connaught Place on August 23.

According to reports, an official stated that the smog tower's construction had been completed and that its inauguration will take place on August 23 rather than August 15. The tower, which stands around 20 metres tall, was built to enhance air quality within a one-kilometer radius.

Previously, Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated that the tower's construction was delayed owing to the coronavirus epidemic. According to a Central Pollution Control Board official, another 25-meter-tall smog tower is planned to be operational by August 31. According to sources, Tata Projects Limited is constructing the two pollution towers with technical assistance from IIT-Bombay.

The two towers would each contain 1,200 air filters created by specialists at the University of Minnesota in the United States, who previously assisted in the construction of a 100-meter-high pollution tower in Xian, China.

The Supreme Court ordered the national government to build a smog tower to decrease pollution in Anand Vihar in January 2020, and the Delhi government to build another in Connaught Place within three months.
