Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission calls for action against Tamil director Bhagyaraj

Synopsis

Following the misogynistic comments that Tamil director Bhagyaraj had made at an audio launch, the Andhra Pradesh Women Commission has appealed to the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women to take legal action against him. Bhagyaraj, during an audio launch event to the film Karthugalai Pathivu Sei, stated that women need to be controlled and that boys alone cannot be blamed for rapes.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Vasireddy Padma has written to the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women seeking legal action against the Tamil director Bhagyaraj for his misogynistic comments during an audio launch.

Vasireddy Padma, in her letter addressed to the Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women, said that Bhagyaraj had made “sheer general comments quoting one or two instances” which had hurt the feelings of women activists, women's organisations, the Women's Commission and the government's efforts.

She has urged the Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women to take up the issue at the “highest levels of Government and Judiciary  and see that appropriate action is initiated against Bhagyaraj.”

Bhagyaraj was at the audio launch of Karuthugalai Pathivu Sei, which is reportedly on how a woman is duped by people she meets online.
