Amid Manipur outrage, Rajasthan CM Gehlot sacks minister for criticising his own govt over women's safety

Synopsis

Rajendra Singh Gudha, a minister for Rajasthan, was sacked with immediate effect on Friday after raising concerns about crimes against women committed in the state while the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress was in power.

A Rajasthan minister faced swift consequences as he was dismissed from his position just hours after raising concerns in the Assembly about his government's handling of crimes against women. Interestingly, while his Congress colleagues were addressing the issue of violence in Manipur, Minister of State Rajendra Singh Gudha faced repercussions for his candid remarks.

In response to the situation, a statement from Raj Bhawan revealed that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recommended the dismissal of Minister of State Rajendra Singh Gudha from the Council of Ministers, which was promptly accepted by Governor Kalraj Mishra.

Formerly serving as the Minister of State for Sainik Kalyan (Independent Charge), Home Guard and Civil Defence, Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj, Gudha found himself embroiled in controversy during a discussion on the Rajasthan Minimum Income Guarantee Bill 2023 in the state Assembly.

As Congress MLAs focused on the issue of violence in Manipur during the Assembly session, Gudha took a different stance and called for introspection within his own government. He candidly admitted, "The truth is that we have failed to provide security to women. The way atrocities against women have gone up in Rajasthan, we should introspect instead of raising the issue of Manipur."

The swift dismissal of Gudha showcases the sensitivity of the matter and highlights the government's stance on maintaining unity within the party. By challenging his own government's record on crimes against women, Gudha faced immediate consequences, underscoring the significance of maintaining party loyalty and solidarity in political matters.
