Aero India 2017: Make way, the Chinese are coming!

Synopsis

This is the first time that the Chinese are participating in the Aero India. A seven-member Chinese team from People's Liberation Army Air Force have been given clearance.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that a five-member team from  Chinese Army’s Air warfare wing will be in Bengaluru. According to Russian news sources, Sputnik, the Indian government has cleared a five-member delegation from the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF).

The names of Major General Wang Qiang, Senior Col Gao Zhikuan, Col Huang Xinyang, Lt Col Jiang Jiaji and Maj Li Yiu. Two more names are expected to be added, the report said.

The participation of the Chinese at the event is a major step forward for the India-China relations. Even as India had extended invitations to some 117 countries for the defence expo held in Goa in 2016, Pakistan and China were kept off the invitee list.

Compared to India, the Chinese air force has a massive built up. The PLAAF operates over 3500 combat aircraft comprising mainly the J-6 (MiG-19 equivalent) and the J-7 (based on the MiG-21).
