Demolish Adarsh Building, orders Bombay High Court

Synopsis

The Bombay High Court today ordered the Maharashtra government to initiate criminal proceedings against bureaucrats and politicians for illegal construction of Adarsh Society. The court also asked the government to restore the plot.

The High Court order also ordered the Union Environment Ministry to demolish 31-storeyed Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society.

The high rise building ran into controversy as it was originally meant to be a six-storied structure for housing Kargil war heroes and war widows. But the structure was into a 100-metre-tall building.

According to a report, the court has directed the defence ministry to conduct a departmental probe against officers for their inaction.
