Ankur Panwar, a native of Delhi wanted to marry Preeti Rathi, but she had refused his advances The obsessed lover followed her to Mumbai and threw acid on her outside Bandra Terminus

A 25-year-old Delhi man was sentenced to death by a special Mumbai court on Thursday for hurling acid at a Mumbai nurse, which led to her death three years ago.

 

Ankur Panwar, a native of Delhi, was obsessed with 23-year-old, Preeti Rathi, a nurse by profession. Both were neighbours in Delhi.

 

Panwar wanted to marry Preeti. However, she had refused him. Later when she moved to Mumbai, the obsessed lover followed her.

 

He attacked her on her first day in the city, where she was supposed to join a hospital. Panwar threw sulphuric acid on Preeti outside the Bandra Terminus on May 2, 2013.

 

She later died of multiple organ failures. The special women's court found guilty of "gruesome, merciless and pre-planned" murder.
