23 migrant labourers escape from COVID-19 quarantine centre in Chhattisgarh

Synopsis

23 migrant workers are still missing as they escaped from the quarantine centre in Chhattisgarh.  The migrant workers hail from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Dantewada. 

 On May 7th night, around 23 migrant labourers ran away from a quarantine centre in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region. According to reports, migrant workers have been quarantined about 12 km from their native village Nahadi, which is situated in core Maoist area of the district.

The migrant workers hail from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Dantewada. The workers had no symptoms of coronavirus.

The district collector Topeshwar Verma told media that the sarpanch and secretary of the concerned village panchayat are informed about the missing migrants.

It is also reported that the police and administration cannot reach Nahadi village because it is the core area of Maoists.

Total 59 cases have been reported in Chhattisgarh till now in which 38 have recovered and are discharged from hospital.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India stood at 56,342, according to ministry of health and family welfare. Maharashtra confirmed over 1,200 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, for the second consecutive day. Delhi witnessed the biggest spike in daily COVID-19 count as 448 new cases were added in the last 24 hours.
