
Bengaluru as a metro city leads with the highest number of languages spoken as researchers in their study found the city has 107 languages.
As per the report, research by Shamika Ravi from Brooking Institution and Mudit Kapoor from Indian Statical Institute based on the analysis from 2011 census report say, among 107 languages spoken in IT Capital, 22 are under 'schedule' and 84 are in the 'non-schedule' category.

The IT revolution post-1999-2000 and boom in the realty sector may be one of the contributing factors for the surge in other languages especially those found in the neighboring south states, north and central India and northeast belt.
With Karnataka sharing a very similar culture and tradition with Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Telangana, the city also houses a major population speaking Tamil and Telugu.
Bengaluru was once under Madras Presidency during British rule and a huge population from Tamil Nadu was recruited to work in KGF gold mines. Many workers also settled in Bengaluru. Parts of Bengaluru and also Mysuru still have a significant presence of the Tamil population.
As per the survey, 15% of the Bengaluru population speaks Tamil followed by Telugu with 14% and the Malayalam language is spoken by 3% of the population.
With several minority pockets in the city including Shivajinagar, Pulakeshinagar, Chamarajpet, Bommanahali and Jayanagar, the language of Urdu (Dakini) is found to be at the rate of 12%.
Apart from Bengaluru, Nagaland's Dimpar has reported the presence of 103 languages, Assam's Sonitpur district has 101 languages.
Jalpaiguri in West Bengal has a presence of 90 languages. Similarly, South Delhi has 97 languages.
93% of various languages are spoken in Karbi Anglong another district of Assam, East Khasi Hills of mountain state Meghalaya has the presence of 96 languages, Pune has 93 languages among its population and Mumbai suburban area has recorded 88 languages.
