Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi allocates portfolios to ministers, retains 14 portfolios with himself

CM Channi has retained 14 portfolios including vigilance and given home affairs to deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and health to another deputy CM OP Soni.


Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday allocated portfolios to his ministers in his newly formed Cabinet.

Some of the key departments that are held by the Chief Minister are power, excise, mining and geology, environment, and civil aviation.

Several ministers, including Badal, who were a part of the previous Amarinder Singh-led cabinet, have retained their portfolios.

Cabinet Minister Brahm Mohindra will look after Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs, while Manpreet Singh Badal retains Finance. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa will be in charge of Rural Development.

Aruna Chaudhary now holds the revenue department, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria got water resources, Razia Sultana got water supply and sanitation, and women and child development, and Bharat Bhushan Ashu was given food, civil supplies and consumer affairs departments.

Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa has been given the Rural and Panchayats, and Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development.

Vijay Inder Singla will hold the Public Works Department. Sangat Singh Gilzian will be the new Forest Minister and Pargat Singh the new School & Higher Education and Sports Minister.

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has been given charge of Transport and Gurkirat Singh Kotli has been assigned the Department of Industries.

Among the other new entrants, Randeep Singh Nabha will hold the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department, Rana Gurjit Singh got technical education and industrial training, and horticulture departments, while Raj Kumar Verka will hold the social justice, empowerment and minorities, medical education and research departments, PTI reported.

The ministers took oath of office on Sunday, a week after Punjab witnessed a change of guard with Captain Amarinder Singh resigning from his post and Channi becoming the new chief minister of the state.
