In the year 2019-2020, the Bharatiya Janata Party witnessed a record 2,555 income through electoral bonds. The move which the Opposition Congress had dubbed as making the corruption official.
BJP government tops the list of the most beneficial parties to have earned revenue through electoral bonds as it reported a whopping revenue collection of Rs 2,555 crores.
In 2017-2018, the central government had introduced this concept in which funding to the political party by individuals, private persons including foreigners without revealing identity came into effect.
The move was condemned by Opposition Congress and called for the entire process to legalise corruption. Despite the criticism, the government went ahead then.
Now, out of Rs 3,355 crore revenue through sale of bonds, BJP tops the list with 76%. The grand old party Congress received Rs 318 crores through sale of its electoral bonds.
Similarly, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's All India Trinamool Congress party has reported Rs 100.46 crore revenue in 2019-2020.
The Nationalist Congress Party which is in coalition with Congress and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra has earned Rs 29.25 crores revenue by electoral bond sale in the same year.
The opposition parties to BJP like Shiv Sena and DMK reported Rs 41 cr and Rs 45 cr revenue earned by electoral bond sale in 2019-2020 respectively.
Perceived as the cleanest party, Aam Aadmi Party of Aravind Kejriwal also reported a revenue of Rs 18 crores through sale of the party's electoral bonds.
