Hours after news of AIADMK's ex-Minister's statement about losing votes due to 'alliance with BJP' went viral, party coordinator O Paneerselvam resorted to damage control. The  former CM said that the alliance will be 'intact' as it has full faith in BJP and PM Modi.

Following the damaging statement about BJP-AIADMK alliance by former minister C Ve Shanmugam, coordinator and former TN CM O Paneerselvam jumped in to defend the party and said that the Dravida party has complete faith in the leadership PM Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party.

The co-ordinator also issued a letter regarding the same.

"The  India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has full faith in the BJP party and the Hon. Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi Ji. Considering the interest of the Nation and also the welfare of Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK-BJP alliance will continue and there is no second opinion on this," Paneerselvam was stated as saying as per a news release.

Paneerselvam's statements are seen as a measure to keep the national alliance partner in good faith as the party has already lost and with DMK coming back stronger, the AIADMK could have some voice at the national level with help from BJP which is in power in Centre.

Earlier on Tuesday, former AIADMK Minister C Ve Shanmugam had said that the Dravida party lost minority votes in Assembly elections only because of alliance with BJP.

Before this statement could cost the AIADMK, the party leadership seems to take measures to keep the alliance strong and has sent a strong message to its cadres not to make any statement.

Earlier the party had expelled 9 cadres for anti-party activity after they held a phone conversation with expelled leader VK Sasikala, however, in this case involving Shanmugam's remarks, the party is yet to take any action.
