What kind of Muslims kill during Ramzan, asks Bangladesh PM

Synopsis

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday confirmed that some of the hostages were killed in the terror attack, however, an exact count and nationalities of those killed is yet to be released.

At least 35 people were reportedly taken hostage, including about 20 foreigners, when gunmen stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery at the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka, a popular diplomatic zone on Friday night. The Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists have taken responsibility for the attack.

Condemning the attack, Hasina said:

"What kind of Muslims are these militants that they are killing during the Holy month of Ramzan? There can not be any rationale behind such attacks, those who did it have no religion."

Addressing the country in a television broadcast, Hasina said six gunman had also been killed and one had been captured alive in a dawn raid on the cafe by Bangladeshi commandos.

"I congratulate the Bangladesh security forces for running a successful rescue operation. We have been able to save 13 people, six gunmen have been neutralised and one has been captured" said PM Hasina.

She added that the Bangladesh government is determined to root out terrorism from the country.

She also congratulated the country's security forces for their prompt action.

"Our security agencies were prompt in their action. This was a very successful operation, want to thank Navy, Police and all other forces," she said.
