USA's 100m hurdles champion Brianna McNeal banned for 5 years for dope violation

Brianna McNeal of the United States of America is an Olympic champion, winning the gold in 2016, while she happens to be a hurdles specialist. However, she had reportedly tampered with doping results last year, leading to her getting banned for five years.

Olympic hurdles champion Brianna McNeal of the United States of America has been handed a five-year ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for violating doping norms. She is alleged to have tampered with the doping results last year. Nevertheless, she is said to be appealing against her decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

"An update on the Brianna McNeal case: The Disciplinary Tribunal has sanctioned Brianna McNeal (USA) for five years, starting 15 Aug 2020, for tampering within the results management process, her second violation of the @WorldAthletics Anti-Doping Rules. The athlete has appealed against the decision to CAS. Her appeal will be heard before the Tokyo Olympics. Yesterday, CAS granted the athlete provisional relief and temporarily stayed the DT decision to allow her to compete until the end of the USATF Olympic Trials on 27 June," said AIU in a tweet.

Brianna won the gold in the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 100m hurdles, while she also won a gold in the same during the 2013 World Championships. She also won silver during the 2016 World Indoor Championships (60m hurdles).

Brianna ban comes with just over a month to go for the Tokyo Olympics, as she looks set to miss out on the global event. Also, it is the second doping violation report within 24 hours after Indian wrestler Sumit Malik failed the dope test and is doubtful for the Olympics.
