Milkha is admitted to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, where he is said to be doing better while his condition is stable. "On the basis of his medical parameters today, his condition has been observed better and more stable than yesterday," said Prof Ashok Kumar, an official spokesperson of PGIMER, reports PTI.

On Thursday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had checked upon Milkha and wished him a speedy recovery. He also expected him to be back in July to inspire the Tokyo-bound Indian athletes for the Olympics.

Meanwhile, Milkha's wife Nirmal Kaur is battling the same disease and is admitted to Fortis Hospital in the same city. However, the hospital affirmed on Friday night that her condition has deteriorated.

"Mrs Milkha Singh has deteriorated with progression of disease and increase in oxygen requirement. She is presently on HFNC (High Flow Nasal Cannula) and NIV (Non-Invasive Ventilation) intermittently," said Fortis in a medical update.
