Milkha Singh remains stable in ICU, wife Nirmal Kaur's condition deteriorates

Milkha Singh was diagnosed COVID positive a couple of weeks back and was admitted to the hospital, where he made a quick recovery. However, he was admitted again on Thursday night, while his wife Nirmal Kaur is battling the same disease and her condition is severe.

Legendary former Indian athlete and sprinter Milkha Singh battled COVID-19 a couple of weeks back. However, he was admitted to the hospital on Thursday due to a drop in oxygen level.

Milkha is admitted to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, where he is said to be doing better while his condition is stable. "On the basis of his medical parameters today, his condition has been observed better and more stable than yesterday," said Prof Ashok Kumar, an official spokesperson of PGIMER, reports PTI.

On Thursday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had checked upon Milkha and wished him a speedy recovery. He also expected him to be back in July to inspire the Tokyo-bound Indian athletes for the Olympics.

Milkha's golfer son Jeev Milkha Singh also thanked PM Modi for checking upon his father. "Many thanks to Prime Minister@narendramodi for taking time out from his busy schedule and call dad to find out about his health. Dad had to shift back to the hospital yesterday. He is stable. And once again, thank you also to everyone who has kept him in their thoughts," he wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Milkha's wife Nirmal Kaur is battling the same disease and is admitted to Fortis Hospital in the same city. However, the hospital affirmed on Friday night that her condition has deteriorated."Mrs Milkha Singh has deteriorated with progression of disease and increase in oxygen requirement.
