Sports Ministry grants ₹20.67 crore for Haryana to host Khelo India Youth Games 2021

The upcoming edition of the Khelo India Youth Games would be held in November, the fourth edition of the Indian sporting event. It was last held in 2020, in Guwahati, Assam, with Maharashtra being the best performer.

The next edition of the Khelo India Youth Games will occur in November this year, with Panchkula, Haryana, being the host this term. Meanwhile, the Indian Sports Ministry has approved ₹20.67 crore to the state to host the event.

The 2021 edition would be the fourth season of the competitive youth sporting event. It primarily focuses on U-18 national level talent, while it would possess sports of 25 disciplines, along with five indigenous sports for the first time this season. "As part of the partnership between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Haryana Government, the Sports Ministry has sanctioned Rs 20.67 crores to organise the Games," the Sports Ministry was quoted as saying in a statement.

"I am very happy that the Games will be held in Panchkula in Haryana this year. The existing sporting infrastructure in the state is very good and more infrastructure is being developed for the Games, and I am confident athletes will have a very good experience," said honourable Indian Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The athletes who qualify for the main edition of the Games are given an annual scholarship of ₹6.28 lakh, including a ₹10,000 pocket allowance. The event has been played annually since 2018, with Delhi, Pune and Guwahati being the hosts on previous successive occasions.

Haryana and Maharashtra (2) are the only teams to have won the most gold medals to date.
