Argentine football legend and one of the GOATs of football, Diego Maradona has passed away. He was aged 66, as he suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Tigre, Buenos Aires. He was released from the hospital just a couple of weeks ago after undergoing successful surgery for a brain clot.

Maradona is considered one of the true legends of the sport, alongside Pele and many more. He was well known for his pace, along with his fine dribbling and scoring abilities. He helped Argentina win the 1986 FIFA World Cup, besides winning the 1993 Artemio Franchi Trophy.

In club football, he has represented numerous top clubs, like Boca Juniors, Barcelona and Napoli, while he also won the UEFA Cup with the latter in 1988-89. Although he was into managerial roles at the latter stages of his career, he could barely find any success. His last managerial reign was with Gimnasia de La Plata previous season.

Besides his legendary career, he was involved in controversies too. He was renowned for his famous 'Hand of God' goal that knocked England out in 1986. Also, he was involved in drug and alcohol addiction at the latter stage of his career.

“The hype made it seem liked we were going to play out another war. I knew it was my hand. It wasn’t my plan, but the action happened so fast that the linesman didn’t see me putting my hand in. The referee looked at me and said: ‘Goal’. ‘It was a nice feeling like some sort of symbolic revenge against the English,” Maradona had said on his ‘Hand of God’ goal.

In his personal life, he was married to Claudia Villafañe, as the couple had two daughters, Dalma Nerea and Gianinna Dinorah, while he also became a grandfather in 2009. Nonetheless, the couple got divorced in 2003, after staying together for 19 years.
