The competition was initially scheduled to be held in 2020 before the pandemic forced it to be delayed. Meanwhile, the new dates and schedules were announced by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) on Monday.

The knockouts would begin on July 2 with the quarters, followed by the semis and third-place playoff. The final would be played on July 10 at Estadio Metropolitano, Barranquilla.

"As is traditional, CONMEBOL invited teams from other confederations. However, the suspended matches and delays brought about by the pandemic that affected world football impeded other nations from participating," said CONMEBOL in a statement.
