This year, final exams ended early on April 16 because of the TN assembly elections, and summer holidays began on April 17. The government first said schools would reopen on June 1. But due to the intense summer heat, they pushed the date to June 4. This free travel news comes just as students are getting ready to go back.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced this great move. With schools opening on June 4, 2026, and colleges later, students need a way to travel. The state transport corporations will soon issue new passes for the 2026-27 academic year. Till that happens, a school uniform is enough to get a free ride.

College students, this is for you too!

It's not just for school kids. Students from Government Arts and Science Colleges, Government Polytechnic Colleges, and Government ITIs can also travel without a ticket. They just have to show their current college ID card to the bus conductor.

Safety first for all students

Transport Minister Vijay Tamilan Parthiban said that special teams will monitor bus services during peak school hours. He also confirmed that all drivers and conductors have been strictly told to stop at proper bus stops. They must ensure students get on and off the bus safely.
